The Challenge

With 200,000 drivers and a presence across more than 20,000 zip codes, this crowdsourced delivery platform had grown to become the largest same-day delivery provider in the United States. That scale brought new vulnerabilities. Fraudulent driver registrations were increasing, with individuals creating multiple accounts using different selfies to bypass verification. At the same time, rapid growth was exposing performance bottlenecks in the platform's core applications, and the in-house QA team lacked the expertise to address them. The platform needed a partner who could tackle fraud, performance, and capability gaps at once.

The Solution

Svitla took a multi-pronged approach, addressing fraud detection, platform performance, and service expansion simultaneously.

On fraud, Svitla built a Proof of Concept for an AI-powered facial recognition system in just two months. The system extracted facial embeddings from new driver photos and compared them against existing records using distance metrics including cosine similarity, identifying duplicate accounts before registration could be completed. The results of the PoC were strong enough to move straight into production.

On performance, Svitla migrated the testing environment from a slow and costly tool to Locust and CircleCI. New testing scenarios were created for warehouse and driver applications, and existing ones revised to ensure optimal performance across the platform. The new environment was faster, more cost-effective, and gave the QA team capabilities it had previously lacked.

Svitla also led integrations with UPS and Delta Cargo, extending the platform's service offering to include air cargo and same-day deliveries, and enabling new client relationships including handling Amazon Returns.

The Outcome

The AI fraud detection system reduced the occurrence of fake and duplicate driver accounts, protecting the integrity of the driver network and improving overall platform security. The migration to a more efficient testing environment cut costs and gave the platform the scalability to support continued growth. The UPS and Delta Cargo integrations opened new revenue streams and positioned the business for further expansion.
